April is Adopt a Greyhound Month
Ah April. The month of mad weather, leftover Easter eggs, and… Adopt a Greyhound Month! If you’ve ever thought about welcoming a long-legged snoozer into your home, now’s the time to take the leap.
Let’s talk about why greyhounds need us, why you might need one too, and why life is just better with a hound on the sofa.
Why Do So Many Greyhounds Need Homes?
Every year, thousands of greyhounds are left behind when their racing or coursing days are over. Some are barely out of puppyhood. Others are “retired” at just two or three years old. These dogs were bred to race, not to be cherished – and when they’re no longer making money, they’re often discarded.
Across Ireland and the UK, small rescue groups do their best to step in. Most have no government funding and very few resources, yet they work miracles to save these dogs. Still, there are always more greyhounds than there are safe homes.
They didn’t choose that life. But you can help change their future.
Why Adopt a Greyhound from RIGHT?
Now here’s the bit that sets us apart. Every single RIGHT greyhound has lived in a foster home before being adopted. That means your new best friend already knows about home comforts – like soft beds, warm laps, and the magic of roast chicken. They’ve had time to decompress, get used to the telly, figure out stairs, and practise their sofa sprawl. No guessing games. Just a dog ready to be loved.
So if you’re after a best friend with a gentle soul, a big heart, and a serious talent for sleeping, a RIGHT hound might be your perfect match.
Why Greyhounds Make Brilliant Pets
Low maintenance: Two short walks a day, then it’s back to the couch.
Sweet natured: Polite, affectionate, and born for sofa snuggles.Quiet and calm: Not ones for barking or bouncing.
Adaptable: City flat or countryside cottage – they’re happy wherever you are.
Easy grooming: That sleek coat is as low-fuss as they come.
Full of quirks: Roaching, sighing, goofing about – they’re hilarious and heart-melting in equal measure.
What About the Challenges?
Some rescues are starting from scratch with house training or social skills. But not RIGHT hounds. Because they’ve already lived in a home, they’re used to home life. Of course, every dog is different – some are confident, some are shy, some are professional lounge lizards. But thanks to their foster experience, you’ll be starting with a good idea of what to expect.
And you won’t be on your own. We’re here to support you, every step of the way.
You won’t just be giving a greyhound a home – you’ll be giving them the life they’ve always deserved. And in return? You’ll get unconditional love, endless loyalty, and a foot-warmer for life.
Want to Help but Can’t Adopt?
No problem. You can still make a big difference:
Foster: Even a short stint gives a greyhound a vital stepping stone.
Donate: Blankets, leads, treats, or a few quid – it all helps.
Spread the word: Help bust the myths and show the world what greys are really like.
This April, why not open your heart to a greyhound?
All RIGHT greyhounds are already used to home life. They’re ready when you are. And once you’ve had a greyhound in your life, well… you’ll wonder how you ever managed without one.
